How much does an app cost? The honest breakdown

July 22, 2026·8 min read·Dana Yarova, Delivery manager

The only honest answer is a range — but the range is narrower than most founders expect once you know what is inside it. Here is how a typical build breaks down.

Discovery: one week, and it pays for itself

Scoping, user flows and a fixed first-sprint plan. It is the cheapest week of the project and the one that stops the expensive surprises later. We do not start design without it.

Design: two to three weeks for a first version

Wireframes, a clickable prototype and production screens built as a system. The prototype is tested with real users before development starts, so what gets built is what people understood.

Development: two-week sprints with builds every Friday

A native MVP is usually four to six sprints; Flutter can shave a sprint on a two-platform product. Backend, payments, push and analytics are line items, not afterthoughts.

What moves the number

Two platforms natively, hardware features, real-time sync, custom AI work and integrations with legacy systems — each is a predictable addition, not a mystery. So is a second language or an admin panel.

What a quote should contain

A fixed first-sprint scope and price, a roadmap for the rest with ranges, and a named person who owns the timeline. If a quote is one number with no scope attached, it is not a quote.

Takeaway

Budget for a discovery week and a fixed first sprint; every number after that should come with a scope you can read.
